Le Rubic
This project, Upbrella’s first, demonstrated the feasibility and speed potential of a 10-storey building construction project. It involved a hybrid steel and concrete construction using a long-span formwork system.
Upbrella conducted a first lift in August 2015 (delivery of the second floor), completing the structure and building envelope less than 5 months later. The residential units were delivered in May 2016, 4 months after the topping-off was completed by Upbrella’s unique method. Another notable feature was that the building envelope was prefabricated without on-site measurements.
The Upbrella system, which enables a floor to be delivered every 7 to 8 days, is ideal for prefabrication, assembly and on-site adjustments. This was the beginning of integrating lean manufacturing principles into a high-rise construction project.
