Les Philanthropes Residence

Les Philanthropes Residence, two twelve-storey residential towers dedicated to senior living, are undergoing a substantial reconstruction of their exterior walls, including masonry, insulation, and structural components. As the buildings remain fully occupied, the construction planning had to ensure an approach that would be discreet, safe, and compatible with the residents’ daily lives. The Upbrella modular shelter was installed to cover the work area and create a protected environment, allowing crews to progress floor by floor under controlled conditions and shielded from the elements.

The shelter is repositioned using a manual hoisting system with chain hoists. To accommodate the specific load-bearing capacity of a residential building, gravity columns were integrated to properly distribute loads to the ground. This adaptation demonstrates the flexibility of the Upbrella system in adjusting to the structural configurations of different types of buildings.
